Academy Fight Song Signs NIGHTMARES FOR A WEEK

From the inbox:

Academy Fight Song is proud to announce their newest signing – Kingston, NY’s NIGHTMARES FOR A WEEK. The band will release their debut full-length later this Fall after recording with John Naclerio (Polar Bear Club, My Chemical Romance, Just Surrender).

Tour veterans and stage professionals, NIGHTMARES FOR A WEEK are reminiscent of Jawbreaker, The Hold Steady, and The Get Up Kids. They play indie rock anthems full of gritty melody, driving rhythm and heart-exploding emotion. Featuring ex-members of Anadivine, NIGHTMARES FOR A WEEK released their debut EP in 2009 on Broken English records.

CHAMBERLAIN Introduces Two New Songs

90s hardcore/emo staples CHAMBERLAIN have been through a resurgence of activity over the past year, with the culmination of that being a brand new 2 song 7″/digital EP. “Raise It High” and the b-side “The South Has Spoiled Me (featuring Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem),” can be streamed and downloaded on this Bandcamp page. CHAMBERLAIN will be touring support of the GASLIGHT ANTHEM this summer, and the 7″ is a tour only release.

- This is really cool and so surprising to see the band active again. The new songs are pretty in-line with the alt-country/Americana rock that the band embraced on their final recordings. If you haven’t already done so, make sure their amazing full-length, “Fate’s Got a Driver” is in your collection.

New BETRAYED Song Posted – “Above The Influence”

Reuinted old-school hardcore band BETRAYED have posted a brand new song titled “Above The Influence” to their MySpace page. The tune is from their upcoming four song EP Suffering, which will be out on Aram Arslanian’s own React! Records. The band, which called it quits a couple of years ago released a full-length titled Substance on Equal Vision, along with an EP and split with CHAMPION on Bridge Nine and Rivalry, respectively.

Mylene Sheath Signs HERRA TERRA

From the Mylene Sheath Newsletter:

“When we [label owners Lindsey and Joel] flew to Boston last December to be with JUNIUS at the record release show for The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist, we knew that TOMBS and the always amazing IREPRESS were going to be opening. But we had no idea that the other opening act would sound like a HEAD AUTOMATICA / DEPECHE MODE hybrid and incite a feel-good, dance-party riot… and blow our minds. Less than a month later, we got in touch with the band and begged them to let us work with them. And so it came to be. Catchy, dancey, bumping, thumping, grooving, and infectious as fuck – HERRA TERRA bring the party and don’t wait for the party to find them. A confident swagger and a humble attitude make up the cocktail of beautiful people, and Herra Terra have these ingredients in spades.

The new album, Quiet Geist, drops in September with artwork being handled by Radar Visual mastermind Michael Repasch-Nieves (Junius) and if you’ve seen his work on the Junius albums, you know it’s going to be top shelf stuff for sure. Recording, mixing, and mastering credits are forthcoming, along with the tracklisting and cover art – stay tuned… the party is about to get started!!!

- Mylene Shealth is truly one of the most compelling newish labels out there right now. I’ve only been listening to their releases for about a year or so, but their commitment to incredible artwork, recording quality, and so forth is amazing. A recent promo package from them include a 20+ page label zine, which I loved. These things basically went extinct with everything going digital, but Mylene definitely gets the idea of building a label into a brand without doing in a hokey way (c.f, Victory Records’ wacky “Your Label Your Music” ads from a few years ago).

SOILWORK To Release “Best Of” In Japan This Month

From the inbox:

The Godfathers of Swedish modern metal, SOILWORK, will release a “Best Of” album entitled The Sledgehammer Files on June 30th via Marquee/Avalon Records in Japan. The band commented on the compilation to be released shortly before their latest full length record of new material, The Panic Broadcast:

“We’re proud and stoked to unleash the first ever official collection of classic SOILWORK tunes! The only way we could imagine our ‘Best Of’ album was as a complete chronological retrospective, and that’s exactly what The Sledgehammer Files is, from the raw ’n relentless Steelbath Suicide days to the modern majesty of Sworn To A Great Divide. We made sure to include the lyrics and cover art for each album, rare promo and live shots from each era, and a bonus DVD with most our official videos. Topped off with re-mastered songs from the first two albums and a new mix of ‘Exile’, this package is 100% SOILWORK!”

THE GHOST INSIDE – “Returners”

Three years after the release of their massive, breakdown heavy debt full-length, Fury And The Fallen Ones,” THE GHOST INSIDE hit back with Returners, a more intricate hardcore/metal affair that digs deeper than simply bringing the mosh. While speed, buckets of double-bass, and outstretched, shouted vocals are still part of the band’s musical agenda, there’s [...]
