CLUTCH Plan More Reissues For 2010

From the inbox:

Weathermaker Music, has announced July 20th as the official release date for CLUTCH’s first of three 2010 re-issues, the enhanced, expanded edition of From Beale Street to Oblivion. This 22 song, double CD not only features multiple versions of the band’s widely popular blues rock anthem “Electric Worry,” but includes 5 songs recorded at the Maida Valle Sessions at the world famous BBC studios in London, and 4 songs recorded live in Australia, as well as updated and upgraded artwork and packaging. From Beale Street to Oblivion isn’t the only re-issue in the works either. Weathermaker will re-issue Robot Hive/Exodus in September and Blast Tyrant in November, also as dual disc/expanded editions. Look for special vinyl versions of all the re-issues as well.

- CLUTCH is in an interesting position now. They’ve been around for 20 years and the sound and style they’ve been slogging with for all of that time is in the midst of a huge rebound. A tour mixing new and old that I wouldn’t mind seeing would be these guys, with the THE SWORD, EARLY MAN, and HOWL.

Bursts of Thought!

  • 1. SENSE FIELD’s Building could use a remastering.
  • 2. CRUEL HAND’s Prying Eyes does a better recording imitation of classic NYHC than the actual classic records.
  • 3. iTunes DJ keeps pairing CLASH songs with songs from FINCH. I blame myself more then the software…
  • 4. I think Epitaph has been using the same “Epitaph Bands Get Warped” email template for the summer festival for the past 10 years…
  • 5. BACKLASH 2xLP Discography release on 1124 Records has incredible packaging and sound quality. 90s NJHC worth remembering.
  • 6. How long before vuvuzelas start showing up at hardcore shows?
  • 7. Does anyone prefer BLOODSIMPLE over VISION OF DISORDER?
  • 8. That ENERGY band just kind of vanished didn’t it? I think that happens to every band that compare in some way to IGNITE.
  • 9. List of bands with FIGHT in their name in non-linear order: BRUTAL FIGHT, ENDLESS FIGHT, AFTER THE FIGHT, FINAL FIGHT, FAIRFIGHT, FIGHT FAIR, FIGHT LIKE HELL, FIGHT PARIS, FIGHT UNITED, FIGHT EVERYONE, FIGHT ONLY SOME PEOPLE (ok, not really…).

MILES AWAY Debut New Song From Upcoming 7″

Australian hardcore band MILES AWAY have added the new song “Ghostwriter” to their MySpace page. The tune is from their upcoming self-released 7″ EP Memory Embraced. The EP is a prelude to the band’s fourth full-length, Endless Roads, which will be out on Resist & Anchors Aweigh Records. The 7″ will include two brand new songs and two previously unreleased songs. MILES AWAY has had its full-lengths licensed for release in the US via Bridge Nine and 6131 Records.

OLEHOLE Streaming New Music

Northern California indie/post-hardcore act OLEHOLE are streaming four new unmastered songs on their MySpace page. The so-called Guacamole sessions are a precursor to the band’s upcoming second release for Underground Communique.  You can also stream the band’s excellent full-length Holemole at the same location.

Editorial Content / News Bits

1. Last week Daytrotter posted its session with FAR. I wasn’t sure Jonah was into new recordings that didn’t sound like they came straight from an arena, but maybe he just had a change of heart. The reunited FAR is currently pushing their new full-length, At Night We Live.

2. BAND OF MERCY has joined Hellfish Family. Here’s the word from the band and label: “Call us whatever you want–vegan fascists, or terrorists. Just know that we are everywhere, and the animals will have deliverance.” Band of Mercy, formed from the ashes of DIE YOUNG (TX), is a band by vegans for vegans. BAND OF MERCY sets out to to deliver music that will fuel the fire for vegan fitness, increased libido, and last but not least… ANIMAL LIBERATION! Think Motorhead meets Die Young meets Bad Religion. An early punk vibe and driving guitars mixed with Daniel’s distinct vocals create an energetic atmosphere of noisy ruckus fun. Six songs that are perfect for everything from circle pitting to liberating animals. We plan of doing a small pressing and loading it full of extras. Keep an eye out for the 7″ later this summer! Check out a song off the new record on www.hellfishfamily.com“.

Everything goes in cirlces, a reaction to combat an extreme – I’m calling it now, 2011 will bring a huge revival in vegan straight-edge hardcore.

3. The Twitter account of @faketonybrummel is one of the funniest fake accounts I’ve seen in a long, long time. It;s even better if you visualize Tony as the bad guy in Inspector Gadget who is always stroking his cat…

4. Escapist Records will be working with DAYBREAKER. From the label: “Boston-based rock outfit Daybreaker will team up with Escapist Records for their debut release, The Northbound Trains EP. The band, which is comprised of seasoned veterans of the Northeast hardcore and punk scene – including members of With Honor and Ambitions – have recently completed the tracking for the release at Getaway Group Recording Studios.

In regards to the sound of Daybreaker, guitarist Jeffrey Aust states “While I still enjoy hardcore/punk music, this band has given me a new excitement for playing guitar and the opportunity to showcase some of my other influences that didn’t show through in previous bands, while still taking with me the do it yourself work ethic.”

“This is the band I’ve wanted to be in since I was a kid,” states vocalist/guitarist Dan Rose, “and we’re ready to work for it. The days of the A&R guy offering new bands a recording contract in the back of a smoky club are pretty much over. For a band to get noticed these days you have to dedicate the hours and write good and sincere songs, otherwise kids will see right through you. We’re ready to do both.”

The EP will feature seven songs and will be a vinyl/digital release only, out in late summer.

SEAHAVEN – “Ghost”

SEAHAVEN’s name makes me think of a condo community in South Florida, which is kind of odd since the artwork is basically photos of deer frolicking alongside a river in an area that looks decidedly untropical. Musically, however, SEAHAVEN reminds me of three different contemporary bands at different moments throughout the seven songs on Ghost, [...]

No Sleep Signs AFICIONADO

From the inbox:

No Sleep Records is proud to welcome Albany, NY’s own AFICIONADO to the family. Drawing influence from an array of bands ranging from At the Drive-In, to Cursive, to the Hold Steady, Aficionado has a developed a unique style they are happy to call their own. With roots in punk music, the band mixes organ, flute, and occasional horn arrangements into it’s unorthodox blend of post-punk. The bands No Sleep debut EP When It Comes To Creation was produced by the legendary Don Fury (Bayside, Judge, Quicksand) and will be in stores and online this fall.

- A song from the EP “The Same Original Idea” is streaming on the band’s MySpace page. The song, possibly in a different iteration also appeared on an EP from the band released in late 2009. Of further note, this will likely be the first and only time I will ever get an email with a listing of bands to literally be “BAYSIDE, JUDGE, QUICKSAND.” Admittedly, it would have been more interesting if that was a sound comparison. Finally, is it just me or does it look like there’s an entire thrash band hanging out within the band’s own group photo. I guess that can happen if you have eight members…
