SideOneDummy To Release BOUNCING SOULS “Complete Control Sessions”

From the inbox:

SideOneDummy owner and Complete Control Radio host, Joe Sib has rounded the troops and put together an awesome live recording series. Much like the Peel Sessions from the early years of Punk Rock, The Complete Control Sessions will feature live recordings from all the best bands in the scene.

Who better to kick off the series than the BOUNCING SOULS! The band came through Los Angeles on their last tour and stopped at Swing House Studios and jammed out a live set of six songs, including a MISFITS cover, for their session. The Misfits song features a cool guest vocal from long time friend and ALKALINE TRIO frontman, Matt Skiba.

The Complete Control Sessions will be released on SideOneDummy Records and will be available on a limited pressing of vinyl and digitally. All of the artwork for the series will be done by our friend El Jefe from El Jefe Designs. The artwork will have the same aesthetic throughout the series. For all the vinyl collectors of the world: the album we be pressed on 3 colors. 1,400 black, 300 Black with Gold Splatter and 300 Gold with Black splatter. The colored versions will be sold through SideOneDummy Records and Chunksaah Records websites. The release will be out on April 12th.

- Sweet! Here’s to hoping that RANCID makes an appearance in this series…

New SMALL BROWN BIKE Song!

Twelve years after the line-up that put together Our Own Wars, SMALL BROWN BIKE is about to return this Spring with Fell & Found, an eleven song set of new material for (who else?) No Idea Records. The band recorded the LP in Chicago with J. Robbins. You can check out the full track listing and stream the song “As We Go” via Altpress.com.

- Yup… got that SMALL BROWN BIKE sound, though a little less immediately aggressive. Kind of reminds me THE CASKET LOTTERY.

UNDEROATH / THURSDAY Split 7″, Limited Tour Only

From the inbox:

UNDEROATH and THURSDAY are in the middle of their North American Tour. The bands have teamed up to bring you an extremely exclusive and limited edition split 7″ featuring “Paper Lung” from Underoath’s most recent effort Ø Disambiguation, and a brand new song called “Past and Future Ruins” from Thursday’s upcoming full length album out on Epitaph records this April! Fans will only be able to purchase the 7” at upcoming tour dates while supplies last. Tour dates can be found here.

- I’m sure this was a quick idea that was put together in a flash, but would it have killed UNDEROATH to include an unreleased/new song as well? Seems like it would have made the 7″ so much more interesting to own… and oh yea… new THURSDAY album in April?!?!?!

Spotlight On: CROWS ON VULTURES

CROWS ON VULTURES are a Brooklyn punk/hardcore band that sounds like a mix between CAPITAL and a harder RIVAL SCHOOLS (and I’m gonna say SCREW 32 as well, but I don’t think too many people care about references to under-appreciated 90s East Bay Hardcore bands anymore). The band has posted three new songs on their MySpace page that are well worth checking out.

Spotlight On: EASE THE MEDIC

Columbus, Ohio’s EASE THE MEDIC and a powerful indie rock five piece that’s poised to have a busy 2011. The group, founded in 2005, has a brand new song titled “Churchill’s Down” on Chapter 12 of Deep Elm’s “Emo Diaries,” and will be releasing a split 7″ in March with THE GARRISON on We Want Action Records. Building on that, a new full-length is already in the can and will be out in Spring/Summer on a label to be determined (… and if it’s Deep Elm, that wouldn’t be a surprise at all). I kind of a get SLINT/SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE vibe from the band, but with reaches to harder and more ambient extremes. Four songs from the group can be heard on their Sonic Bids page, and you can stream “Churchill’s Down” here.

- The image is the cover art to their 2006 debut EP Riot on the Gold Coast, which can be streamed via MySpace.

DAYTRADER – “Last Days of Rome”

Last Days of Rome is the debut EP from this new Long Island all-star group, featuring current/former members of CRIME IN STEREO, LATTERMAN, and BRIDGE AND TUNNEL. While that member pedigree ought to leave Long Island music fans drooling over possibly style scenarios, DAYTRADER leaves most prior-band baggage in the dust. Tuning into an emo/post-hardcore [...]

Spotlight On: AMATEUR PARTY

I found myself unusually ultra-wired on caffeine late last night while the wife and kid we’re sleeping and that resulted in spending a whole lot of time on the Bandcamp page from Rorschach Records. Their latest release is from Philly’s AMATEUR PARTY, which unexpectedly was a perfect fit at the time for my skittish mindset. The write-up on the label’s website  basically says everything I would have written here had I not looked there first…

Truncheons in the Manor is the first LP by Philadelphia’s AMATEUR PARTY in 3 years and their first full-length ever. The band recorded 10 tracks with drummer Steve Roche between 2009-2010 to make this opus of an album. The band has an all-star line up of Philadelphia musicians that have played in ARMALITE, OFF MINOR, KILL THE MAN WHO QUESTIONS and more, but really stands on its own without a resume. Similar to their style reminiscent of reggae punk/post-punk on their previous releases, the band develops their sound even further to maker their best and most cohesive recording to date. Fans of THE JAM, MINUTEMEN, TED LEO, and Kill Rock Stars bands take note, this record fits in perfectly with those of an older punk rock sound.”
