Creator-Destructor Signs KIDS ICARUS

From the inbox:

Creator-Destructor Records is extremely excited to announce the addition of Connecticut’s KIDS ICARUS to their roster! Hailing influence from the likes of PROPAGANDHI, SHAI HULUD, and A WILHELM SCREAM, the Northeastern quintet combines razor-sharp technicality with genuine sincerity and unbridled passion to create a sound truly unique in the world of punk rock. Label owner Ben Murray states, “It is truly an honor to be putting this record out. I have known these guys for a while and always knew what they were capable of, but this material just blew me away. It’s so refreshing to see such progressive musicianship and forward thinking within the genre of punk rock, and they are definitely a perfect match for our label’s ideals and ethics. Get stoked!”

THE CHEIFS Stream/Interview @ AMP Mag

From the inbox:

AMP Magazine is now featuring an interview with Bob Glassley, bassist of legendary 80s punk band THE CHEIFS on their website along with a stream of their album Holly-West Crisis which was re-issued by Dr. Strange on vinyl earlier this month. You can check out the piece here.

- Intentional bad spelling makes my head hurt, but hey… punk rock!

MESHUGGAH Talk About Music, Stuff…

- I believe what the band is trying to say here is “We’re so sick and fucking tired of being perfect on every record… so this one is going to have some screw-ups because if have to track the material 300 times again, we’re gonna go kill ourselves… so just deal with it you flabs of message-board detritus!”

Facedown Posts New Music From ONWARD TO OLYMPAS, GIDEON

Two of Facedown Records recent signees have new songs premiering from upcoming full-length recordings. North Carolina melodic metalcore band ONWARD TO OLYMPAS have added the song “The War Within Us”, which is the title track to their upcoming release (coming in March) to their Facebook profile, while Alabama’s GIDEON have posted the song “Virtue” on their respective page. GIDEON play metallic hardcore in the vein of COMEBACK KID or TERROR. Their debut full-length, Costs, hits stores on March 1st.

STAY AHEAD OF THE WEATHER – “We Better Get Goin’ If We’re Gonna” EP

Few five song debut EPs have instantly introduced as much musical promise as We Better Get Goin’ If We’re Gonna from STAY AHEAD OF THE WEATHER. The band is more of a side project as it features members of INTO IT.OVER IT., NATIVE, and CSTVT, but if their songwriting stays at this level when they [...]

ShopRadioCast Has Out of Print Lobster Records LPs

I’m not sure if there’s a back story to how online store ShopRadioCast came into contact with a bunch of out of print first pressings from Lobster Records releases, but they have them, including titles from WHIPPERSNAPPER, JOYSTICK (!!), BUCK WILD, STARING BACK, and MOCK ORANGE. According to the company, there will be some news soon about other Lobster titles and the vinyl form. Hmm… You can check out the whole list of titles here.

- I do not consider myself much of a vinyl collector, but even I would jump at a chance to buy STARING BACK’s On if that’s one of the lucky upcoming titles (not likely I’m guessing).

Editorial Content / News Bits

1. Century Media Records has launched a new “spirit-filled” division named Ain’t No Grave Recordings (ANGR). Its first two signees are SLEEPING GIANT (ex-Facedown Records), and THE GREAT COMMISSION (who must have been named after a really awesome day selling high-end bedroom furniture). Century Media notes “The bands who are associated with ANGR place a high value on the words within their music, their interaction with their audiences and their impact upon the world from an artistic and philosophic standpoint. Not every band evangelizes, but none will compromise the heart of what they’re doing.” I’m guessing a split 7″ with cross-labelmates DEICIDE is not on the agenda here…

2. SOCIAL DISTORTION’s Daytrotter session went live this week. So did one from J. RODDY WALSTON AND THE BUSINESS. How about one from SICK OF IT ALL Daytrotter?

3. 29 seconds of a new FOO FIGHTERS song confirms the existence of bass, guitars, drums, and vocals on at least one track from their upcoming full-length. I’m not really sure what the purpose otherwise was of this…

4. From SideOneDummy:

“TITLE FIGHT (Kingston, PA) has signed to SideOneDummy Records and is planning the release of their debut album in late spring of this year. The album was produced by Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools, Quicksand) and Engineered by Will Yip at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA. The foursome tracked the album in two weeks in December, 2010.

TITLE FIGHT brings a refreshing new sound to the hardcore scene taking influence from bands like Seaweed, Jawbreaker, Texas Is The Reason and Hot Water Music. With an incredible DIY ethic and a true love for hardcore, Ned Russin (Vocals/Bass), Jamie Rhoden (Vocals/Guitar), Shane Moran (Guitar) and Ben Russin (Drums) are soon to be leaders in the next wave of great American hardcore.”

… THE SOUNDS and TITLE FIGHT, both announced in the first 19 days of 2011. Helluva good start to the year.
