Stream: ON BODIES – “Planet Hospice”

ON BODIES is a veritable ex-member all-star roster of Florida hardcore bands: SHAI HULUD, AS FRIENDS RUST, CULTURE, KNOW THE SCORE, GLASSEASTER, MORNING AGAIN, DANCE FLOOR JUSTICE, UNTIL THE END, WHERE FEAR AND WEAPONS MEET, DESTRO and more. Although only song from their upcoming six song EP is streaming on their Bandcamp page, it’s got a defiant old-school hardcore edge to it with alluring shouted-out vocals.

NIGHT BIRDS’ “The Other Side of Darkness” Up For Pre-Order

From Grave Mistake Records:

Yup that’s right, we’ve been talking about this record for the better part of 2011 and now we couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that The Other Side of Darkness, the debut LP from NIGHT BIRDS, is now available for preorder! I think by now it’s safe to say that NIGHT BIRDS need no introduction, so you should know what to expect from these NY/NJ boys … they pulled out all of the stops on this LP and are very excited that it will soon be available for mass consumption. The release date is still slated for SEPTEMBER 13, 2011 and we are aiming to have orders shipping by that date.

Although there is no colored vinyl, we’ve done up something special for the first hundred or so orders so if you get your order in early enough, you might get a nice surprise when your LP shows up. We are also doing a TEST PRESS contest – we will be giving away two test pressings of the LP, anyone who preorders the LP from Grave Mistake in August will be eligible to win.

When You Say “Ex-KILL YOUR IDOLS, TEXAS IS THE REASON”, I Say “Jump!”

Just saw this on the Livewire Records message board:

“Andrew West (KILL YOUR IDOLS) and Eric Svirida (THE LAST CRIME) started assembling the line-up that would eventually become TOO MANY VOICES in mid-2010. They added guitarist, Ivan Gonzalez (25 TA LIFE), Scott Winegard (TEXAS IS THE REASON /FOUNTAINHEAD) on bass, and in early, 2011, the line-up was solidified with the addition of Chris Daly (TITR/108/JETS TO BRAZIL) on drums. The plan was simple. Play music inspired by the straight forward Hardcore music they had been obsessed with for decades, as often as possible, write and record a full-length, and play shows when the time is right. TMV recorded and will self release a 4 song demo Summer 2011, and will record their debut full-length Fall 2011 (label tba).”

- Whoooo!

Suburban Home “Adopts” ALONE AT 3AM

Suburban Home has been on a signing/adopting/comingling spree in 2011, which isn’t totally surprising given some of the label’s turmoil and turnover in recent years (such as losing TIM BARRY). One of the new additions is the Ohio rock band ALONE AT 3AM, who will be releasing their full-length Midwest Mess in early 2012. Three songs from a new 7″ (of b-side material however) titled From an Ohio Basement, are now streaming via Soundcloud.

Shield Recordings To Release SWEET EMPIRE LP

From the inbox:

On September 1st Shield Recordings will release SWEET EMPIRE’s first full length This Season Needs Torches. Sweet Empire is a well-known name in the Dutch punk rock scene for about three years now. They play punk rock in the vein of DESCENDENTS and DAG NASTY and are not afraid to speak about the not so pretty issues of our society. After releasing an EP on Black Death Records and a split CD with OLIVER JOHN WARD they are now ready for the real deal. This Season needs Torches will be released as a white/blue or gold LP packed in a gatefold sleeve and as a CD packed in a great looking digipack. Two songs from the 12 song effort can be streamed below.

Weatherbox To Release EP On Youth Conspiracy Records

From the inbox:

It would be reasonable if you thought WEATHERBOX imploded some time ago. After all, the San Diego band has cycled through more than a dozen members in its half-decade existence and has kept a relatively low profile since the release of their last LP, 2009′s The Cosmic Drama, and subsequent departure from Doghouse Records.

Frontman Brian Warren has since scaled that mountain and regrouped with a supporting cast that includes longtime friends (including two vintage Weatherbox members) and a new label, Youth Conspiracy Records. Together they will release Follow The Rattle of the Afghan Guitar, a six-song EP that brings you to the entrance of a tunnel, hands you a few matches, and shoves you into the dark.

Recorded this spring in multiple locations in California, Follow The Rattle of the Afghan Guitar finds Warren & Co. returning to the colossal pop-rock that made 2007′s American Art so likable, while keeping the frontman’s expanded lyrical ideas from the psych-folky Cosmic Drama intact.

- You can listen to the new song “Secret Muslim” via AbsolutePunk; two not-so-old songs from the band’s Christpuncher EP are still available on WEATHERBOX’ Bandcamp page.
