ABOVE THIS WORLD “End of Days”
This California hardcore all-star side project is made up of members from THE HOODS, SWORN VENGENCE, and POWERHOUSE. There’s 16 tunes of blazingly quick, mosh-it-up-core from all sorts of influences and angles. The recording is clear, but raw, and with a sense of urgency that most bands in this genre lack. The lyrics are pretty rough around the edges but all with good intentions – certainly tough guy music, but with respect in hand and with a firm grip on reality. It’s always awesome for me to see West Coast bands doing that NYHC style thing, and doing it well. The breakdowns on “End of Days” are wicked, and definitely signs of a band that would have no problem of getting the kickboxing crews involved in a jiffy. Mike Hood does vocals for this band, and if you dig his other band, you’ll go ape over this. ABOVE THIS WORLD aren’t breaking any new ground, but at least their music is quality. The artwork, like all THORP releases is stellar, a credit to the brillant work of J. Bannon at Atomic-ID! An all-star project that’s worthy of listening to by all means.
