Stream: RINGWORM – “Stigmatas in the Flesh” (Live Album)

- One of the best, heaviest sounding live recordings I have ever heard. I wouldn’t have pegged RINGWORM’s sound and style as something that would come through so clear in live recorded form, but this release is absolutely punishing and every element of the band is well represented. The digital version is available for only $5 from A389 here, and it was also released on 12″ vinyl.

Stream: PLACEHOLDER – “I Thought I Would Have Been Somebody By Now” EP

- Recently released four song EP (Broken Rim Records) from this Harrisburg, PA emo/post-punk outfit. Their “Nothing Is Pure” full-length is worth checking out as well. FFO: SAMIAM, SEAWEED, JETS TO BRAZIL.

Stream: THE LONGWALLS – “Big MT”

From the inbox: “Mining the edges of indie, country, and the worst of basic cable, The Longwalls make American pop music. Featuring ex-Gatsby heroes Alan Wuorinen and Brandon Comstock with Dan London and DIY wunderkind Kurt von Stetten on drums, The Longwalls stalk a line between noisy post-pop and twang—exploring ideas and ideals from pop and pulp alike.”

- What does the “worst of basic cable” mean?!? I don’t hear any pundits shouting, and I’m pretty sure I would have noticed a police chase or food battle involving unpronounceable fruits harvested from the densest rain forests. Help me out here…

Song of the Day: HANDSOME – “My Mind’s Eye”

- An ageless song from an ageless record.

Escapist Signs FOXFIRES, New Song From “Golden Age” 7″ Streaming

From the inbox:

Escapist Records is pleased to announce plans to release the forthcoming Golden Age 7” EP from Worcester, MA’s FOXFIRES. Founded in 2010, the members of Foxfires have cut their teeth in a variety of bands over the years, including time with Mountain Man, Four Year Strong, and Last Lights. Foxfires creatively piece together a unique, passionate, and inspiring listening experience; drawing influence from defining artists like The Suicide File, Reach the Sky, and Modern Life Is War.

Vocalist Josh Lyford had this to say of the forthcoming EP: “We are beyond excited to release our new EP with Escapist Records. I think that the new material is a logical extension from our last EP, both lyrically and musically. Lyrically, our last EP mostly dealt with the gap that develops when you lose someone close to you and the questions stemming from that. Golden Age is more of a reflection on what happens while you are in the process of rebuilding that part of you.”

The Golden Age 7” will contain six brand new songs and come with a digital-download containing the EP as well as two additional bonus songs. The effort was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ian Van Opijnen (Mountain Man, Vanna, The Hotel Year) at The Echo Room Recording Studio and is slated for an early 2013 release through Escapist.

- Anyone else hear a little bit of RIGHT BRIGADE in this? Digging it!

Stream: LAST CALL – “Broken Bones”

- New song from the melodic punk rock band’s debut full-length Dog Years, out on November 27th via the new Broken Arrow Collective label.
